Amendment 4 failed in Florida after not meeting the 60% threshold to pass, according to the Associated Press. Florida voters decided to keep the current abortion law which restricts abortion to the first six weeks of pregnancy.

The Amendment 4 campaign has called Florida’s current exceptions unworkable. They ran advertisements with a doctor who said the state’s abortion ban forces physicians to wait until women are on the brink of death to access an abortion.

DeSantis and opponents to Amendment 4 argued the ballot measure's authors are "lying" to Floridians, and words used, like "health care provider" and "viability" leave too much room for "outsiders" and unqualified practitioners to come to Florida and perform unsafe procedures.

While the proposal received 57% of the vote, it wasn't enough to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and keeps Florida's six-week law in place.

Amendment 3 and 4 - the two most discussed amendments on Florida's ballot - did not receive enough support to pass. There will be no changes to Florida's marijuana and abortion laws.

The vote faced a 60% threshold, and the failure leaves abortion banned across most of the South beyond six weeks of pregnancy — when many still don't realize they're pregnant.

The measure proposed enshrining the right to abortion care in the state, which would overturn state-level bans on abortion at 14- and six-weeks of pregnancy, and land a major victory for abortion rights advocates two years after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade.
